PRESS RELEASE:
NEW QUIRKY PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONSILLY CITY. Its about the town, the people and their habbitsBy Stefan Klenke
13-24 MAY 2009
@ THE FOUNDRY, LONDON, 84-86 Great Eastern Street London, Shoreditch, EC2A 3JL
My work is not just about the power of ONE photograph. By creating extensive collections about various topics I am able to show how I see the state of our urban environment with its funny and lovable but also sometimes silly and questionable habits.
Tube Snoozers, Grannies with Trolleys, Lost Gloves, Faces in Places and Dogs must wait! are a only few of Stefan Klenkes bizarre but entertaining photo collections from his Silly City-series.
From 13 May 2009 he will showcase these sets as an appetizer to his first huge solo exhibition which will follow later this year.
This is the publics chance to get a taste of Klenkes quirky way of seeing the urban world around us.
For the last 3 years the East Berlin born artist (30) has walked the streets of the UK and Germany often using his mobile phone camera to photograph rare moments, people and oddities of metropolitan life.
The London based photographer says: The mobile phone technology has made it possible to take photos of reality without interfering with it. Something I have always dreamed of as a documentary photographer. Other than with big cameras people dont get scared of mobiles, they dont pose they just go on with life.
By this new means of taking documentary style photos Stefan Klenke has created his series Tube Snoozers - a project about London commuters which portrays the Capitals broad mix of ages and ethnicities all united by giving in to the one universal urge: Sleep.
Stefan Klenkes exhibition will be held in Shoreditch (East London) from 13 May 24 May 2009 at The Foundry, 84-86 Great Eastern Street, EC2A 3JL
The Entry is free!
Opening night: Wednesday, 13 May 2009 - 8pm-11pm Open to all public!
